We make a concerted effort to hire articling students we feel will make excellent long-term team members. Our programs are designed to be flexible, nurturing and give you a practical opportunity to put your legal education to work.
Our program
The high quality articling program at Dentons Montréal will equip you with the tools you will need to become a great lawyer. We invest heavily in training and development and are constantly striving to improve our processes to ensure students get the very most from their articling and beyond. The program begins with an orientation to acquaint you with our office, management and methodologies. From there, you will be assigned work on files and given numerous opportunities to draft documents, meet with clients, conduct legal research, assist in major corporate transactions and more. The initial orientation program will be supplemented with seminars throughout your articles that deal with issues of particular interest to new lawyers.
Our rotation schedule
At Dentons Montréal, we believe that your articling period represents the best opportunity for you to gain valuable exposure to a wide variety of practice areas. It features three rotations scheduled over six months.
Our rotation schedule is as follows:
- Litigation; Employment and Labour (two months)
- Corporate and Commercial Law (two months)
- Practice sector of your choice (two months)
In each rotation, you will work closely with lawyers in that group, performing legal research, interviewing witnesses, meeting with clients, drafting documents, assisting with corporate transactions and otherwise gaining experience by liaising with members of the Firm. We also encourage you to meet with clients from the outset and to gain practical, firsthand experience working on their files. We treat you as a valuable member of the Firm from day one.
Evaluations
Evaluations are a key component of our articling program. They are viewed as opportunities to address your performance and ensure that you are on track for retention by the Firm. During your articles, you will receive two formal evaluations scheduled to coincide with those of l’École du Barreau du Québec. Additionally, you can expect to receive feedback and informal evaluations from the lawyers you will be working with.
